One in five adults do not prioritise time with their children or grandchildren as much as they would like, according to banking firm Scottish Widows.

Research found that the pressures of work in particular force around ten million Brits to not spend enough time with their family.

The survey highlighted that over half of adults in the UK have risked their relationships in the past by not being with their loved ones.

Iain McGowan, savings expert for Scottish Widows said: "Families are continuing to feel the pressure and unfortunately for many, it's the relationships with their kids and partners that are taking most of the strain."

He noted that many people are working harder and longer to ensure their job is secure during the challenging financial climate.

Recently, LV= research found that many Brits have had to put their dream travel ambitions on hold while they were working, with only a fifth of people achieving their travel ambitions by retirement.

However, 14 per cent of workers in the UK hope that they will have their ideal home by the time they are pensioners.
