Buying for travel essentials 'starts today'

Most families will start to buy all the essentials for their summer holiday today, new research reveals.

M&S Money found that with ten days to go until the weekend when many depart for their getaway, now is the time when people start to buy all of their bits and bobs.

But for those who have not yet made their monetary arrangements such as taking out a prepaid credit card for use while away, there is still time to buy foreign currency.

In fact, 69 per cent of would-be holidaymakers are planning to purchase it before they go and use the cash overseas.

"It's always a good idea to buy before you fly and make the best of competitive exchange rates on the high street," said M&S head of travel services Fraser Millar.

Research from the lender also revealed that over half of all currency orders will request euros.

As well as having some cash to take abroad, using a credit card can be a useful way to minimise the risk of theft. It is important to make sure all terms and conditions related to the credit card are understood before departure and what to do in case the card is stolen.
