Brits who are currently trying to tighten their belts as a result of the credit crunch are unwilling to give up their summer holiday, according to the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA).
Spokesperson Frances Tuke said history shows "holidays are the last things that people are prepared to give up".
She added people are now able to compare money-saving holidays and "can pick ones that will suit their pocket".
A survey of over 2,000 people by American Express revealed 80 per cent of Brits would be reluctant to give up their summer break.
Elsewhere, youtravel.com noted there has been a sharp increase in bookings for all-inclusive holidays.
According to research by Halifax Travel Insurance, 2.5 million Brits take a package holiday to an exotic destination every year but only spend an average of seven hours away from their hotel.
