Ethical investments 'not a fad'

Choosing ethical investment products is not a fad and is set to become a growth area, an expert has argued.

There are an increasing number of ethical funds available to investors and the market is likely to continue to grow in coming years, said Jason Hollands, head of group communications at F&C Asset Management.

"People are much more willing … to make changes to their own lifestyle and clearly how you invest your money and your long term savings is a big part of that," said Mr Hollands.

He added that although ethical investments are still "fairly small", the sector is growing at a rapid rate.

Further to this, the City also feels that this particular area is likely to see particular growth in the coming years.

Figures from the Investment Management Association reveal that ethical funds under management were worth some £5.4 billion the first quarter of this year, up from £1.4 billion in 1998.
