Ethical product choice grows

There is an "incredible" amount of choice in the ethical finance market and the range of products has expanded greatly in recent years, an expert has argued.

Jason Hollands, head of group communications at F&C Asset Management, said there is now much more choice for investors looking for ethical financial products.

"There is an incredible amount of choice, which is a good thing, but one of the dilemmas facing investors is how to understand the different options available," said Mr Hollands.

He added that estimates suggest there are now over 90 different ethical investment products on offer. But this could lead to confusion for investors, he said, as they may not be sure what items to choose.

According to research from the Co-operative Bank, the overall ethical market in the UK was worth some £32.3 billion in 2006, up nine per cent from the previous year. The average household spent some £664 on ethical products.
