Men in the UK 'identify with Ian Beale'

When it comes to money, British men have admitted they identify with stingy Ian Beale from Eastenders, according to a new poll.

The survey by Scottish Widows asked men and women which soap character or celebrity most closely matched their personality when it came to financial matters.

A fifth of men compared themselves to Ian Beale, saying they were 'tight' or 'careful' with money.

In contrast, women felt they had more in common with Eastenders' Honey Mitchell, with 17 per cent saying they are 'always short of money' and a further 15 per cent admitting that they 'have one financial crisis after another'.

Mike Hoban from Scottish Widows said men should be commended for being careful with money.

However, he added that they "have to make sure that what they are doing with any savings pays off in the long term".

People looking at investing have been advised to compare money making deals after the Post Office revealed that British savers are losing out on approximately £8 billion a year by failing to choose accounts with high rates of interest.
