Millions of over-50s 'to head to Glastonbury'

As Glastonbury weekend kicks off, many teenagers and 20-somethings will be packing their tents and wellies and heading off to see their favourite bands.

However, despite the stereotypical view of the young festival-goer, a new survey has shown a significant part of the crowd will be made up of older people.

Research by Alliance & Leicester has revealed more than four million over-50s like nothing better than attending gigs and live events.

Glastonbury this year will also feature some golden oldies on stage, with crowds being entertained by Neil Diamond, Leonard Cohen and Shakin' Stevens.

However, Emma Walkley from Alliance & Leicester has said attending festivals can be costly and advises people to compare money making accounts to ensure they do not end up struggling for the rest of the summer.

She said: "Attending gigs and festivals like Glastonbury can make a significant dent in the finances so it's important for people to look for ways to make their money stretch further."

Earlier research from Alliance & Leicester found Brits who smoke 20 cigarettes a day see £2,065 go up in smoke every year.
