New service 'will help victims of identity fraud'

A new identity fraud service has been praised by the National Consumer Council (NCC).
Anna Fielder, senior policy advisor at NCC, said the new system will reduce the amount of stress experienced by victims who have had their details used for fraudulent activity such as taking out loans and credit cards.
The scheme has been established by three credit reference agencies Equifax, Experian and CallCredit.
People who suspect they are a victim of identity fraud simply need to contact one of the agencies. That agency will then inform the other two.
All three agencies then start work to restore the victim's credit file.
Ms Fielder said: "You just ring one number and they check all your details, they see what funny activities are on your credit record and they sort the mess out for you."
She explained that in the past the onus had been on the victim to clear their credit record and their name.
