Bank holiday motorists 'should make careful preparations'
By Jonathan Dawes, Fri 22 Aug 2008 - Published in Breakdown Cover
The roads may be quieter than usual this bank holiday weekend but with the AA expecting 58,000 breakdown calls, drivers who do intend to be out and about may want to check they have sufficient breakdown cover.
Figures from the AA reveal more than half of motorists have no intention of getting behind the wheel at all this weekend, with 23 per cent putting their reluctance to drive down to the cost of petrol.
A further 50 per cent claim they will be staying close to home, heading out for a day-trip rather than for a full weekend break.
However, despite a growing reluctance to travel, the AA has predicted the roads will still be busier than during a normal weekend.
Andy Taylor, AA patrol of the Year, said: "We would always advise drivers to make careful preparations for their journey, whether it be a last minute decision or a planned journey."
In other holiday news, the Post Office claims Brits are heading to foreign destinations despite the credit crunch.
