Breakdown cover customers should plan ahead before long car...

Breakdown cover customers should make sure their vehicles are in good condition before setting off on a long drive this summer.

This is according to the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM), which claims that UK drivers should plan ahead and keep a reflective jacket, warm waterproof clothing and a torch in their cars.

On top of this, it is important Brits type their breakdown cover provider's number into their mobile phone and make a note of their membership number.

Chief examiner at the IAM Peter Rodger, said: "Having a well-maintained car is the easiest way to avoid breaking down.

"Check your tyres, lights and oil regularly. If you hear strange noises or feel something is not quite right with the car, get it looked at - don't wait for it to go wrong."

Recently, moneysupermarket.com noted that car insurance customers should make sure their 'fully comprehensive' policy actually covers them for all eventualities and provides them with a courtesy car and legal costs.
