Breakdown cover 'essential for European holiday'

Holidaymakers need to ensure they have adequate breakdown cover if they plan on driving in Europe, it has been suggested.
M&S Premier Car Insurance pointed out that many people will choose to take a break over the coming May bank holiday weekend and driving to mainland Europe is becoming a popular choice for those seeking to avoid lengthy queues and delays at airports.
However, the organisation pointed out that the distance which needs to be covered can make vehicle problems more likely if drivers do not take adequate precautions and recommended that they ensure they have breakdown cover.
Andrew Ferguson, M&S head of general insurance, commented: "It is crucial for drivers who are making longer journeys by car for the first time to make sure they have the adequate car insurance and breakdown cover in place, so that they have peace of mind should the worse happen."
The organisation also advised holidaymakers to thoroughly plan their journeys before heading to the continent and check their car's oil, screen wash, coolant and tyre pressures.
Recently, Confused.com claimed that opting for a vehicle with a small engine and taking a Pass Plus course can allow drivers to benefit from lower car insurance.
