Brits planning a summer holiday in the UK this year should make sure they have sufficient breakdown cover.

This is according to GEM, which claims it is important for people to plan for every eventuality when they are making a long journey.

The company noted that Brits should check their tyres, brakes, windscreen wash, lights, oil and water levels before hitting the road on their holidays.

David Williams, chief executive of GEM, said: "It is extremely important that drivers realise the necessity to ensure their cars have been fully checked, as there is a real danger in breaking down on a strange road with all the family on board and a car full of luggage with children excited to get to the destination.”

Recently, research from Auto Express found that for the third time in four years, Brits rated GEM the best company for breakdown cover and customer service in the UK.
