Car insurance: Breakdowns could increase by overloading...

Thousands of car insurance policyholders are putting their vehicles and passengers at a greater risk by overloading their motors as people drive to their Easter holiday destinations, according to Britannia Rescue.

The breakdown company said that with over six million Brits planning holidays during the Easter break, and 17.7 million this summer, there is a greater risk of overloading their cars.

Furthermore, with UK roads being peppered with potholes it is worried that the extra weight could mean more vehicles are liable to breakdown.

Peter Horton, managing director of Britannia Rescue, said: "With Easter upon us and the excitement of summer holiday season fast approaching, it's completely understandable that motorists may not be considering the dangers caused by overloading their car."

He advised car insurance customers to put safety first as British roads are in a state of disrepair.

On top of this, the company's research revealed that around 180,000 motorists have broken down because of overloading their vehicle.

Recently, the Department for Transport has given local councils across England an extra £100 million to spend on repairing potholes.
