Holidaymakers 'should check car insurance'
Fri 30 May 2008 - Published in Breakdown Cover
British holidaymakers heading on a driving break to Ireland should check their car insurance policy to ensure they are fully covered, an expert has argued.
Thomas Brosnan, a spokesperson for AA Ireland, said that drivers should check their car insurance policy before going on holiday and should also ensure that they have breakdown cover.
"It would be advisable for the motorists to take out their own breakdown cover ... because if there's an accident or whatever it can be expensive," said Mr Brosnan.
He added that individuals taking their own vehicle to the country would be wise to check their own level of cover while on their driving holiday.
Recent figures from the country's official tourist board, Tourism Ireland, found that in 2006, some 4.97 million Britons visited the country. The majority of visitors headed to Dublin, although some 36 per cent visited the west of the country.
