Britain to be covered with snow by Thursday

Snow will affect the southern part of Britain later this week, with forecasters predicting more white stuff before Thursday (February 9th).

It is envisaged that much of the south will receive either sleet, snow or rain, with freezing conditions making driving treacherous for car insurance policyholders.

However, in the north, temperatures could rise to around eight degrees C, which will help last week's frozen snow melt away.

The Met Office has predicted that the lowest overnight temperatures could fall to around minus 13 degrees C.

Helen Chivers, a forecaster for the Met Office, told the Daily Telegraph: "Ice will continue to be a problem overnight in parts where there has been snowfall. On Thursday and Friday much of the country will experience a mixture of rain, sleet and snow."

Across Europe, conditions have also been perilously cold, with canals in Venice being covered by ice, and similar waterways in Amsterdam being used as ice rinks.
