Brits 'increasingly open to green cars'
By Tom Farley, Fri 1 Aug 2008 - Published in Car Insurance
Some three-quarters of Brits are open to the idea of helping protect the planet by driving greener motors, according to esure car insurance.
Research by the group revealed younger motorists were the most likely to buy an environmentally-friendly vehicle, with 81 per cent of under-25s saying they would consider driving a hybrid, bio-fuel or electric car - compared with 66 per cent of drivers aged over 55-years.
The survey found 65 per cent of motorists have changed their attitude towards driving as a result of the current economic climate in the UK.
Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure car insurance, said: "If fuel prices continue to rise, we may see more drivers switching to electric cars because Britain's motorists are definitely feeling the pinch."
The poll also revealed people in the north-west were most likely to consider driving an electric car, with 75 per cent saying it was something they would consider.
Earlier this week, moneysupermarket.com advised motorists to compare insurance deals to ensure they make the biggest savings possible.
