Brits say 'the most important feature of car insurance is...

When shopping for car insurance the number one consideration for UK motorists is how much it will cost, according to research by Fairinvestment.co.uk.

Of those questioned, 57 per cent said that price was most important to them, with only 19 per cent saying that they were more concerned about the level of cover.

A total of five per cent of motorists said that a courtesy car is a necessity while, of equal value to voters with two per cent each, was breakdown cover, a discounted rate for partners, a low excess and a protected no claims bonus.

The poll also found that some aspects of car insurance were of no interest at all to participants.

Cover for driving other cars received no votes and no one expressed an interest in a no claims discount.

James Caldwell from Fairinvestment.co.uk said: "Motorists should be careful choosing their car insurance by price alone, the cheapest car insurance is not always the best and there are other aspects to be taken into consideration."

However, moneysupermarket.com claims increased competition among insurers means that cheaper insurance can still provide a good level of cover.
