Car insurance cutbacks 'still need to be within the law'

People making cutbacks to their car insurance should ensure they still comply with the law, according to the British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA).
Advice from the organisation follows figures from Directgov, which showed 6.5 percent of British people are driving without car insurance, amounting to two million motorists.
Steve Foulsham, technical services manager at BIBA, said that while now is the right time to assess cover and see where money can be saved, people should ensure they are still driving legally.
"You need to bear in mind that you do need motor insurance to comply with the law, so you do need to appraise what you're getting," he added.
One way drivers can cut their car insurance is to have limited mileage as insurers will offer discounts for this.
Other tips from Mr Foulsham include protecting your no claims bonus, as this can save money in the long term if you have to make a claim.
