Car security 'vital during summer months'

Drivers should become more attentive to the security of their vehicle this summer, M&S Car Insurance has claimed.
A poll carried out by the financial services provider discovered that 56 per cent of British motorists have been the victim of car crime in the past.
The research showed that 12 per cent have seen their paintwork maliciously damaged, eight per cent have suffered a smashed windscreen and a further eight per cent have been targeted by thieves.
However, it also revealed that 40 per cent of drivers do not always turn on their car alarm, while 43 per cent have left their vehicles unlocked and 12 per cent never use security features.
M&S head of general insurance Andrew Ferguson commented: "During the summer months, many drivers unwind windows and leave roofs open - it's important to make sure the vehicle is secure when unattended."
Recently, Confused.com claimed that spiralling car insurance costs could be encouraged more people to lie when applying for cover.
