Cat burglars 'could be targeting your vehicle'

Drivers who are keen to protect the no claims bonus on their car insurance need to be on the look out for cat burglars, AA Insurance claims.

The group warns increasing cases of stolen catalytic converters are being reported.

Thieves are targeting catalytic converters as they contain precious metals and each one fetches about £60.

AA Insurance also claims as the price of fuel goes up there is a growing trend of stealing petrol and diesel from parked cars.

It adds thieves who steal fuel are often causing extensive damage to cars in the process.

Director of AA Insurance Simon Douglas said: "Thieves work quickly and carelessly, sometimes causing hundreds of pounds worth of damage."

The AA advises motorists to park in a well lit area, to set up a neighbourhood watch scheme and to consider fitting a security device that is sensitive to the movement of a vehicle.

In other news, the Association of British Insurers claims car insurance is getting more expensive as a result of the rising number of personal injury claims.
