Drivers reveal speeding triggers

New research has examined when drivers are most likely to speed, which may concern car insurance customers.

A poll carried out by Co-operative Insurance discovered that 46 per cent of motorists admit to speeding when they are running late for an engagement, while 43 per cent step on the accelerator when they are in a bad mood.

In addition, the survey revealed that 30 per cent of respondents speed when they are on a motorway, 21 per cent break the limit when they need the toilet and 16 per cent drive too fast when on their way to or from work.

Grant Mitchell, function leader at Co-operative Insurance, commented: "Life is undoubtedly faster paced than it has ever been before with technology and goods and services available around the clock - which has ultimately led to cultural changes in the way people live, work and, as the research has revealed, drive."

He also called on motorists to ensure they are concentrating when behind the wheel and said they should not drive in a way which effects road safety.

Recent research by Confused.com found that the average cost of a comprehensive car insurance policy increased by 14.2 per cent in cost in the second quarter of 2010.
