Motorists 'can lower car insurance costs'

Drivers have a limited number of ways to reduce the price of their car insurance, an expert has claimed.
Neil Greig, director of policy and research at the Institute of Advanced Motorists, pointed out that most of the cost of insurance comes down to factors which are hard to change, such as people's age, gender and where they live.
However, he said that there are a few ways motorists can lower the cost of their policy, like deliberately choosing a model which is cheaper to insure.
"When buying a car, you want to look for one in a lower insurance bracket. Most new cars will display this in documentation before you buy," the expert continued.
In addition, Mr Greig said that motorists can enrol on a recognised advanced driving course or take steps to make their vehicle harder to steal, such as fitting an alarm or immobiliser.
Recent figures from the AA showed that there has been a 15 per cent increase in insurance claims for car thefts over the past year.
