Motorists 'should compare insurance deals'

Drivers should carry out research to ensure they get the best car insurance deals when buying motors, esure has said.

According to its data, drivers are risking higher premiums by not "checking ahead".

Nearly a quarter (24 per cent) of those polled would not get a car insurance quote before deciding to buy a new car.

And 30 per cent do not check the insurance group of the make and model of the car they are considering buying to see if the premium is within their means.

Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure, said that buyers of new or used cars should spend "an hour or two researching" deals to "make a real difference to your wallet".

Meanwhile, left handed people have been found to be the best drivers in the UK, according to new research by AA.

Almost six out of ten left-handers pass their driving test first time, making them ten per cent more likely to do so than right-handers.
