Motorists 'should ditch bad habits for Lent'
By Tom Farley, Wed 3 Mar 2010 - Published in Car Insurance
Car insurance holders should use Lent as an opportunity to cure themselves of bad driving habits, it has been suggested.
Price comparison website Tiger.co.uk claimed that motorists should focus on improving the performance behind the wheel, rather than making other Lent gestures such as giving up chocolate.
According to the site, some of most bizarre yet distracting driving habits are developing irrational rage towards other road users, talking too much, threatening passengers, falling asleep at red lights and attempting to spray other motorists with wiper wash.
The group also found that male drivers are more willing than women to cure themselves of bad habits such as eating, reading maps or changing clothes when behind the wheel.
Graeme Kalbraier, managing director of Tiger.co.uk, commented: "It's understandable that people will get into bad driving habits over the years, but it's really encouraging to see many of these bad habits cast aside for Lent - or hopefully longer."
Recently, the Department for Transport said that the number of drivers using mobile phones rose during the last year, despite campaigns to demonstrate the dangers of this.
