Poll finds Austin Allegro to be Britain's worst car

The Austin Allegro is Britain's worst ever car, a new poll has found.

New digital motoring magazine iMotormag.co.uk asked 4,000 people for their thoughts on the worst ever product to come from the country's car manufacturing sector and 24.3 per cent said the Austin Allegro.

Car insurance customers might be interested in the news, which also said the car topped the poll due to its poor build quality and the fact its rear window could not "pop out".

The Morris Ital came second, followed by the Talbot Sunbeam and the Austin Princess.

Mat Watson, editor of the magazine, said: "The Allegro was full of promise and expectations, but ultimately failed to deliver."

DVLA statistics show there is around 1,000 Austin Allegros still on the roads in Britain, although production of the car stopped a quarter of a century ago.

The car was recently suggested by the Telegraph when it asked readers to submit nominations for the ugliest car of all time.
