Reduced car emissions 'important for 7 in 10 drivers'

Some 70 per cent of drivers say they are concerned about reducing carbon emissions, despite 85 per cent saying they do not know their vehicle's CO2 level.

Research by the British International Motor Show (BIMS) also shows 60 per cent say they do not understand emissions.

Many companies now offer car insurance policies at a reduced rate for vehicles that have lower emissions.

But the BIMS research also shows a lot of confusion about environmental awareness in driving with 52 per cent saying they do not know which tax band their car falls into.

Some 84 per cent said they did not know if 100g of carbon dioxide per kilometre was high or low and 58 per cent were not aware that there is no exhaust pipe on an electric car.

Meanwhile, the government has recently announced it will not raise fuel duty by two pence in October as originally planned.
