Replace child seats after collision

Car insurance customers should ensure they replace child seats after an accident, it has been claimed.
Research from Direct Line discovered more than 20 per cent of parents do not believe a child seat needs replacing following a low-speed collision.
However, the car insurance provider and national road safety charity Brake pointed out the structural integrity of a child seat can be compromised after such an incident, with no visible signs suggesting it is damaged.
Maggie Game, head of car insurance at the firm, commented: "What might seem like a minor accident can undermine your child's safety if you are involved in a subsequent collision.
"Even minor accidents can weaken restraints which are critical to protecting your child in an emergency."
In addition, Ms Game recommended motorists contact their car insurance company following an accident to see if they will cover a replacement child seat.
Earlier this month, Direct Line called for an increase in the penalties applied to those caught driving without car insurance, saying it could act as a deterrent for the offence.
