Scenery 'a top driving distraction'

The UK's car insurance customers can find the beautiful countryside to be a distraction, it has been found.

A poll published by Zurich Connect found that attractive women are the main distraction for motorists, but the sights of the British countryside also featured heavily in its top ten.

Stonehenge and other heritage sites were the second most common distraction, while the Yorkshire Dales and other scenic views came in third and the Angel of the North and similar art installations took fifth place.

Other things which take drivers' attention off the road include flocks of birds, supercars such as Ferraris, shop window displays, attractive men, David Beckham's advert for Armani and roadside graffiti.

Mike Quinton from Zurich Connect: "Surprisingly, the Yorkshire Dales beat David Beckham's pants hands down as roadside eye candy. We can only conclude that drivers passing through stunning landscapes need to be especially vigilant if they want to avoid becoming part of the scenery."

The scenery found in Surrey could be less appealing to motorists, after research by Kia Motors UK found that there are around 1,998 potholes in the region - making it the worst-hit area in the country.
