UK cars at risk of flooding

The UK could have as many as 1.5 million cars at risk in flood-prone areas, it has been claimed.
Research from uSwitch.com warns that car insurance providers are expecting to pay out "tens of millions" in claims and suggests premiums could increase.
The firm says that motorists making claims for flood damage could see a 26 per cent rise in the car insurance costs and also reveals one in four people are not protected against flood damage to their vehicles.
Ashton Berkhauer, insurance expert at uSwitch.com, said flooding is an issue which affects motorists as well as home owners, but many failed to learn lessons from last year's deluge.
He added: "If drivers do not insure their cars properly, they could suffer the financial consequences long after the flood waters recede."
Last weekend, the UK was hit by heavy rains which led to flooding in several areas, with John Hammond, a spokesman from the Met Office, telling the Guardian that September could be one of the wettest on record.
