UK drivers 'have bad habits'

New research suggests UK motorists are risking their car insurance costs by engaging in bad driving habits.
According to a poll by price comparison website Confused.com, around 20 per cent of motorists say they eat or drink while driving their car on a regular basis, while 47 per cent admit to driving with just one hand on the wheel.
In addition, 29 per cent of 17 to 24 year olds say they frequently break the speed limit, although six per cent of the age group claims to have no bad driving habits.
When about potential car insurance claims, 80 per cent of Londoners said they would leave their details if they bumped into another car, followed by 76 per cent of Scots - while 34 per cent of northern drivers revealing they would drive away.
Simon Lamble, product director at the website, added: "On average, a driver with three points will see premiums leap by seven per cent, rising to 25 per cent for six points and 50 per cent for nine points.
"While nobody is perfect, we would advise motorists to take more care when driving."
Earlier this month, moneysupermarket.com revealed 30 per cent of drivers admit to illegally using their phone while at the wheel - which, if caught, could cost them an extra 54 per cent in increased car insurance premiums.
