ULR cover 'not offered as standard by most car insurers'

New research has shown that there is a wide variation in the car insurance policies that offer uninsured loss recovery (ULR) cover to their customers.
A study conducted by independent financial research company Defaqto found that 28 per cent of policies do not offer any form of ULR to drivers.
The research also showed that only 21 per cent of policies provide ULR cover as standard, while 51 per cent include the feature as an optional extra.
Mike Powell, insight analyst for general insurance at Defaqto, explained that the cover offers the customer legal help to gain compensation for expenses such as policy excess and medical fees after an accident.
"It's not unusual to be offered a number of optional extras when you buy your car insurance. What is important is that consumers check that they have their required features within their policy," he commented.
Last month, research carried out by the AA claimed that price of annual comprehensive car insurance is increasing at a record rate.
