Credit cards with rewards 'can be simple'

Credit cards that offer reward points for the holder to redeem at a later date can be worthwhile, an expert in the sector has said.

Head of cards at Sainsbury's Finance Donald MacLeod said although some people often think it is too much hassle to convert and spend the points, certain schemes are simple to use.

However, it is important to find a suitable credit card reward product particularly if the customer is "the kind of person who finds redemption awkward and tricky".

According to Sainsbury's Bank, 42 per cent of people with this type of card thought the rewards were too small to redeem and 40 per cent said they could not be bothered to do so.

Mr MacLeod advised people to explore the terms and conditions of the card to make sure it is straightforward enough to actually use.

"Make sure you redeem them because they're worth it," he concluded.
