Credit crunch 'has led to health crunch'

As living costs rise and it becomes harder for people to secure credit cards and loans, a new survey has revealed that the health of people in the UK may be suffering as a result of the current economic climate.

Research by PruHealth has found 60 per cent of people believe they cannot afford to be healthy.

Some 22 per cent of those questioned claim they are not eating a diet which is as nutritionally balanced as they would like because of rising living costs.

About 19 per cent said they had resorted to buying frozen and convenience food options and 12 per cent stated they had reduced the amount of fruit and vegetables they were buying.

Commenting on the findings, Kate Roswell, marketing director at PruHealth, said: "The worry is that the progression from credit to health crunch may worsen as people reduce outgoings by buying less fruit and vegetables."

Elsewhere, PayPal has claimed a fifth of people in the UK are relying on credit cards and savings to pay for day-to-day expenses.
