'Sorting out your finances can reduce holiday stress'

Holidays might be more stressful than we realise, if new research by American Express is anything to go by.

A survey, by the financial services company that offers credit cards and travellers cheques, found that around 65 per cent of British holidaymakers fall out with their family or friends before the plane even takes off.

Some of the most common cause of holiday friction include how much is being packed into suitcases, getting to the airport on time and whether the holiday is too expensive.

Kirstie Bayley from American Express said that sorting out your finances before you leave means you have one less thing to worry about.

She commented: "Holidaymakers have a lot to think about when they go away and the last thing they are going to want to worry about is money."

Ms Bayley recommends taking a mixture of credit cards, cash and travellers cheques to cover every eventuality.

Meanwhile, STA Travel has advised that, for those setting off on gap years and adventure holidays, travel insurance is the wisest purchase you can make.
