Travellers 'need to be more careful with cards'

British holidaymakers need to take better care of their debit cards and credit cards while abroad, CPP warns.

Kerry D'Souza, card fraud expert with the firm, claims that although there has been extensive media coverage about debit card and credit card fraud, people from the UK are still not being vigilant enough.

She stated: "People can still be a bit complacent about how they use their cards and what they do with their cards."

Ms D'Souza made these comments after research by CPP revealed instances of card crime increased by 77 per cent between 2006 and 2007.

She put this down to improved security measures, like chip and Pin - which have been adopted in the UK - pushing card fraud overseas.

Italy, Spain and France are the three top locations for card theft and fraud.

During the past year, half of all card fraud took place in these countries, with a quarter of offences being carried out in Spain alone.
