Brits put homes at risk in winter months

Many home insurance customers are putting their house at risk of damage from winter conditions by not preparing adequately and installing protection measures from the weather.
A survey conducted by uSwitch has discovered that only 19 per cent of Brits have made their home as energy efficient as possible, allowing them to save money on bills and reduce the risk of frozen and burst pipes.
Churchill Home Insurance reported last week that three million homes had been damaged by the weather last winter.
The main hurdle for people not taking steps towards energy efficiency appears to be price, with 48 per cent citing this as the reason, while ten per cent say they would like to be energy efficient, but just do not know how.
Kevin Sears, energy efficiency expert at uSwitch.com, said: "In these cash-strapped times consumers are weighing up the savings they can make by being energy efficient against the initial outlay. For many the concern is whether the savings will outstrip the cost.
