Businesses 'should prepare for summer floods'
Fri 19 Jun 2009 - Published in Home Insurance
Businesses in the UK should prepare for flash floods brought about by hot weather this summer, it has been stressed.
According to financial services provider Aviva, managers should check the flooding history of their local area before taking out home insurance.
Ted Kenrick, technical and risk solutions manager at Aviva Risk Management Solutions, commented that the cost of the harm caused may be more damaging to businesses in the current economic climate.
"Although we are all enjoying warmer weather, with the predictions that this may continue throughout the summer, it is wise to bear in mind that this can bring increased risk of heavy rain and potential flooding," he added.
Earlier this week, Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, stated that flash floods can happen almost anywhere, meaning that it is vital that householders are not tempted to save money by not renewing their home insurance.
The comments follow reports from the Met Office that the UK is likely to experience a long hot summer this year.
