Finding home insurance for a property abroad 'should not...

Second homeowners with properties abroad should have no problems finding an insurer, according to the Association of British Insurers (ABI).

This comes as research from Zurich revealed one in ten Brits with a second property does not have home contents insurance.

Malcolm Tarling from the ABI said that there are specialist companies which deal exclusively in home insurance for properties abroad.

Commenting on the cost of insuring second homes, Mr Tarling said how much you pay would depend upon whether your property is left unoccupied for long periods of time.

He said: "If it's part of a guarded complex, I should imagine it's going to be cheaper than if it's on the middle of a dusty hill-top in the middle of a Greek island."

The research carried out by Zurich also found one in ten of those with a second home visit once a year, with 52 per cent of properties left unoccupied for a month or more at a time.
