Home security 'vital when on holiday'

Holidaymakers should ensure that they are not leaving their properties vulnerable to burglars when they are on their vacations, it has been suggested.
Research carried out by M&S Money revealed that 69 per cent of people stay away from their home for at least one night during August.
The poll also found that 51 per cent will leave their property completely empty and 24 per cent of these will not ask anyone to check on it while they are away.
Andrew Ferguson, M&S head of general insurance, commented: "With August being one of the most popular months for people to go away, we would urge homeowners to take appropriate steps to ensure their home is secure while they enjoy their holidays."
The company recommended that people ask a neighbour, friend or family member to check on their home during holidays and to avoid hiding keys outside.
This month, M&S Car Insurance reminded drivers to be particularly attentive to their vehicles' security during the summer months.
