Importance of home insurance 'must be remembered'

Although home insurance can appear to be a costly outlay, it is worth remembering how important it can be, an expert has claimed.

While home insurance may appear expensive, particularly to low income households, the benefits of protecting the home and its contents should be remembered when considering taking out home insurance, said Debra Williams, managing director of Confused.com.

"We would hope the ability to spread the cost will encourage people to consider home contents insurance as a way of protecting their treasured possessions," she said.

Ms Williams also noted that people should remember taking out insurance is an important consideration.

A report from the Treasury, published in December last year, stated that it was not acceptable for anyone, least of all the most vulnerable members of society, to face unavoidable costs as a result of unexpected events taking place. Home insurance should, therefore, be available to all, the government believes.
