Householders should ensure their home insurance covers the theft of garden equipment, it has been advised.

According to price comparison website Confused.com, valuable items such as barbeques and expensive patio furniture are more likely to be stolen during summer months.

Darren Black, head of home insurance at the group, commented that those looking to purchase home insurance should shop around for the best deal.

"If you are the owner of expensive garden furniture and plants, take time in checking the small print. Make sure the policy you have offers the cover you need, for all elements of your belongings - inside and out of the home," he added.

Earlier this week, Halifax Home Insurance commented that UK householders should ensure their insurance policies cover bicycle theft, which often becomes more frequent during summer months.

The group stated that bicycles are among the top things thieves look to steal from sheds, along with tools, furniture, lawnmowers and plant pots.
