One-third 'have no home insurance'

New research has found over a third of people do not have home insurance, despite the lessons learned through last year's floods.
According to the Fair Investment Company, around ten per cent of households face a significant risk of flooding, although 38 per cent of respondents have not taken out any cover.
In addition, the research found women are more likely to have home insurance than men, with 64 per cent of females taking out cover compared to 57 per cent of males.
Rachael Stiles, a spokesperson for the company, commented: "It has come as quite a surprise that such a large volume of home owners and tenants have no home insurance cover at all.
"Particularly considering the number of floods we have seen in recent years."
She added that insurance should continue to be a priority of homeowners, despite many trying to make savings due to the credit crunch.
Recently, uSwitch.com warned that up to 1.5 million vehicles could be in flood-risk areas, with one in four not protected by car insurance that covers flood damage.
