Parents might want to check their home insurance is up-to-date as the summer holidays start, after a new report has revealed that children and teenagers are responsible for 1.1 million accidents in the home each year.
The research by Tescocompare.com has found in households with young children, 42 per cent of all accidents and damage is caused by youngsters resulting in an overall bill of £229 million every year.
Meanwhile, teenagers were responsible for 250,000 accidents in the last 12 months at a total cost of £68 million.
Commenting on the findings, Paul Baxter from Tescocompare.com said: "With children at home during the holidays the likelihood for accidents to happen increases."
He added for those who did not have accidental damage insurance cover it is never "too late to add this cover to your policy".
This comes after the British Insurance Brokers' Association warned holiday home owners that skimping on insurance for second properties can prove costly.
