UK homeowners 'want Neighbours-style properties'

Most of the UK's home insurance customers would like to live in houses similar to those seen in the soap Neighbours, research has found.
A poll conducted by Halifax discovered that 40 per cent of homeowners think that an open plan property like the ones featured in the Australian drama would be their ideal house.
The survey also revealed that 35 per cent of people would like to live in a cottage like the ones seen in Midsomer Murders, while eight per cent prefer the terraces of Coronation Street.
In addition, the research showed that 62 per cent of home insurance customers are willing to make structural changes to their next house to make it more like their dream property.
Stephen Noakes, commercial director of mortgages at Halifax, commented: "There's often a difference between the dream home and the reality of more traditional properties on the market but now, more than ever, people are willing to take on their own project."
Recently, Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive at the British Insurance Brokers' Association, stressed the importance of checking the small print of home insurance policies.
