Women are accidentally damaging their homes by playing active computer games, it has been revealed.

Research carried out by insurer Sheila's Wheels found accidental breakages caused in the home due to indoor exercise has increased by over 700 per cent in the past 12 months.

Over 13 million women across the country now own a motion-controlled console such a Nintendo Wii, or live with someone who does, compared to 8.7 million women who currently hold a gym membership.

Spokesperson for the group Jacky Brown commented: "In-home computer consoles such as the Wii Fit can be a great fun way to get the heart beating without having to fork out a pricey annual membership. However, it's essential that women prepare their at-home keep fit area thoroughly beforehand."

Earlier this week, home insurance policy holders were advised that they should ensure they have adequate protection against subsidence throughout the summer.

Consumer group Moneysupermarket.com added that hot weather can cause the ground beneath a property to dry out and become unstable.
