Brits need to have home insurance in place, says BIBA

Property owners should ensure they have a home insurance policy in place, according to the British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA).

The organisation noted that it is imperative Brits take out cover on their dwellings and their contents to give them extra protection in case of any mishaps.

BIBA added that people should ensure that their basic policy safeguards their abode from fire, theft, flood and storm damage.

Graeme Trudgill, head of corporate affairs at BIBA, said: "The most important thing is to get appropriate insurance cover. There are really three principle areas that you need to think about in terms of home insurance cover.

"Your home insurance provider will go through with you which areas you might need."

He added that 75 per cent of households in the UK do not currently have home contents insurance.

Recently, BIBA announced that the cost of insuring a property has not changed that much in the last ten years.
