Homeowners affected by floods urged to 'contact insurers immediately'
By Jonathan Dawes, Mon 2 Jun 2008 - Published in Insurance
People with home insurance who have suffered damage to their properties during the flash floods in the West Country should contact their insurers as soon as possible, according to the Association of British Insurers (ABI).
Homeowners who are looking at making a claim are being advised to keep receipts for temporary repairs which have been necessary in order to prevent any problems getting worse.
Policy holders are also being urged to take photographs of how their properties have been affected to show to their insurers.
Nick Starling from the ABI said: "These events highlight just how important insurance protection is. If you have been affected by flooding, contact your insurance company. Their priority is to deal with all claims as quickly as possible."
Following last summer's floods the insurance industry dealt with over 180,000 claims costing approximately £3 billion.
Meanwhile, Direct Line has deployed over 100 members of its emergency home response team to areas affected by flooding in the West Country to offer assistance to people whose properties have been damaged.
