Pet insurance customers can have a torrid time on bonfire night, as dogs and cats cower away from the noise of fireworks outside, but there are measures which can be taken to ensure pets are happier and relaxed this year.
Churchill Pet Insurance has unveiled its top tips for making sure pets stay calm on bonfire night, to avoid stress related illness and the need to claim.
The most basic tips include simple measures such as ensuring that pets stay inside and that all windows and doors are locked to make sure that external noise is kept to a minimum.
Churchill also recommends building a secure den for a pet before bonfire night, where it knows it can go to feel safe.
Pete Bishenden, spokesperson for Churchill Pet Insurance, said: "Loud noises and bright lights can frighten animals and cause them to panic, become disorientated and even run away from home," he added.
The importance Brits place on their pets was underlined recently when a survey from unbiased.co.uk found that 13 million people want to leave money to their nearest and dearest, including their animals.
