Pet insurance is vital to cover animal medical costs

Pet insurance is a vital purchase for owners when it comes to covering expensive medical costs, according to Pet Gazette.

Furthermore, the publication noted that almost all types of animals can be covered by a policy, which helps to give people extra peace of mind.

On top of this, the magazine added that it means owners can get the best possible care for a pet that has had an accident or fallen ill.

Sam Guiry, editor of Pet Gazette, said: "Anyone taking on a pet must remember that it is a long-term commitment.

"People should give serious consideration to the costs of caring for a pet throughout its lifetime which can, on average in the case of dogs and cats, be anything up to 12 and 15 years respectively."

Recently, Sainsbury's Finance revealed that 60 per cent of pet owners did not have an insurance policy to help pay for their animal's dental work, which on average costs around £192 per claim.
