Brits 'cutting back on gyms'

Brits are considering cancelling their gym membership in a bid to save money, a poll has found.
Research conducted by moneysupermarket.com found that one in ten people often fail to show up to their work-out sessions and plan to revoke their membership.
In addition, 46 per cent think the gym is an unnecessary expense and believe there are more cost-effective ways to stay fit and healthy.
The poll also showed that five per cent of gym members would like to keep using the service, but find it to be too expensive.
Emma Walker, head of protection at the price comparison website, commented: "It's important to remember that while joining a gym can be a huge financial commitment, especially if you are on a tight budget, it's not the only way to kick-start a healthy new year."
She added that people who are committed to a healthy lifestyle often find that life insurance and critical illness policies are offered to them at a lower price.
This month, medical insurer Simplyhealth announced it will sponsor GMTV's Dancing Queen Diet, which aims to improve people's health in the opening months of 2010.
